275 new jobs: Sinomatech launches a major investment in Nyíregyháza
Sinomatech Hungary plans a coated separator-film plant in the Nyíregyháza South Industrial Park, creating 275 jobs; the company has submitted its full environmental impact assessment, and trial operation could begin in the first quarter of 2027.
Nyíregyháza, 4 June 2026 – Sinomatech Hungary plans to build a coated separator-film plant in the Nyíregyháza South Industrial Park, creating 275 jobs. The company recently submitted its full environmental impact assessment to the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Government Office. The base film — for an activity closest in nature to plastics manufacturing — will not be produced in Nyíregyháza, minimising chemical use. The technology is already proven in many plants across Europe and is safe and environmentally friendly. The plant will not generate significant noise or traffic and will have no impact on local waters. Trial operation could begin in the first quarter of 2027.
Sinomatech Hungary plans to carry out the brownfield investment on the former site of LEGO (previously Flextronics), refurbishing two existing industrial buildings — a production hall and a warehouse. The site has been in continuous industrial use for nearly two decades.
The company plans to coat — i.e. surface-treat — polyethylene separator films, an activity closest in nature to the plastics industry. Sinomatech is an industry leader producing separator films with an environmentally friendly membrane-coating technology; these films are key components of lithium-ion battery cells.
Safe and environmentally friendly technology
Several similar production plants already operate in the region, but unlike them Sinomatech will not manufacture the base film in Hungary — the group will import it from its own plants in China.

The project involves two existing industrial buildings: the coating technology will be installed in the main production hall, while raw materials and finished products will be stored in the warehouse.
275 jobs, mostly for local residents
The project planned for the Nyíregyháza South Industrial Park will be realised from EUR 114 million, without Hungarian government support, providing work for 275 people. Sinomatech intends to rely on Hungarian and local labour to the greatest extent possible; according to the company’s plans, at least 80 percent of employees will be from the area. The others are expected to be Chinese specialists who will come to Hungary primarily to provide initial technological and start-up support. Depending on the progress of the permitting process, trial production could begin in the first quarter of 2027.
The investment can also offer outstanding opportunities for local companies. “We are committed to building a strong supply chain in cooperation with local companies. We have already selected local partners for the design and construction work, and we plan to source logistics, packaging-material and office-supply services from Hungarian businesses. Our goal is to build long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships that strengthen the local economy while ensuring the efficient operation of our facility,” says Wang Peng.
How production works
During production, a water-based suspension is applied to the pre-manufactured separator film delivered to the plant. The environmentally friendly process takes place in several stages. First, a liquid suspension is prepared by mixing various binders, dispersants and ceramic particles in ultra-pure water. This suspension is then applied to both sides of the incoming polyethylene base film using coating machines fitted with local extraction systems. The coated film is passed through drying ovens, where the aqueous carrier medium evaporates, leaving behind the functional ceramic and polymer coating.
The facility’s only product is the surface-treated separator film, of which around 7,500 tonnes can be produced per year at full capacity. Multi-stage purification systems, including activated-carbon filtration, operate at every emission point. The process is carried out under clean-room conditions, with closed material-handling systems and robotic material movement.
No significant noise or traffic; local waters protected
According to the investment’s environmental impact assessment, noise, air quality and traffic load will all remain within the statutory limits and will not significantly affect local residential areas. The investment does not directly affect any nationally or locally protected nature conservation area or Natura 2000 site, and it will have no negative impact on surface water or groundwater. The project is fully in line with Nyíregyháza’s current zoning plan.
The company is open to partnerships with local civil organisations and community stakeholders. Possible collaborations could aim to strengthen local community relations, develop corporate social responsibility programmes, and support educational, environmental or social initiatives.
